For over 15 years GMECN has strived to give a voice to our Ethnic and Global Majority Communities. What started as a grass roots community network, has grown into a large network of organisations supporting and nurturing Ethnic and Global Majority Communities across Greater Manchester and beyond.

About Us 

GMECN is at an exciting stage of development. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening Greater Manchester’s Global Majority communities and creating a sustainable infrastructure to help the sector grow and thrive. Over the past five years, with support from Comic Relief, The NCLF, and The Phoenix Way, we have expanded our reach and impact. 


We are now building a team to support the sector across Greater Manchester, helping communities develop, flourish, and live well. 


We are seeking an exceptional Interim Chief Executive to lead GMECN through its next stage of growth, securing sustainability for the organisation and its programmes. 


Role Overview 

The Interim Chief Executive will work closely with the Chair ,Directors and the team to: 

  • Manage the network and focus on strategic priorities and ensure that the operational delivery is effective and efficient . 
  • Undertake the monitoring , evaluation and reporting of the Onward Grants Programme is undertaken and delivered  
  • Seek to secure long-term funding GMECN including  the CEO role and continuation of key programmes, including TPW (Years 2–5) , the NCLF beyond 2027 and the infrastructure set up through the support received from Comic Relief both internally and across GM . 
  • Ensure GMECN is strategically positioned and well-governed, with effective operations, finances, and team leadership. 


Key Responsibilities 


Strategic Leadership 

  • Set the vision, development plan, and strategic direction for GMECN. 
  • Represent GMECN on local, regional, and national platforms (e.g., GM VCFSE Leaders Group, GM Equality Alliance). 
  • Build and influence relationships with stakeholders, funders, and anchor organisations. 
  • Advocate for the Global Majority sector, highlighting social justice and inequalities. 
  • Ensure members are informed, empowered, and strategically positioned. 

Management 

  • Oversee funded programmes and ensure delivery against outputs and outcomes. 
  • Manage staff, associates, and volunteers, ensuring wellbeing and effective performance. 
  • Lead office operations and compliance with relevant regulations. 

Financial Management 

  • Manage finances, liaise with accountants, and report to Directors, funders, and regulators. 
  • Ensure accounts, HMRC obligations, and payments are completed on time. 
  • Maintain budgets, cashflow, reserves, and appropriate financial controls for programmes and core activities. 

Funding 

  • Plan for GMECN’s sustainable future over 3–5 years. 
  • Secure core funding for the CEO role from 2027 onwards. 
  • Develop continuation proposals for TNCL Fund beyond 2027. 
  • Secure TPW funding for Years 2–5 and identify other potential funders. 
  • Relationship management with funders and look for funding opportunities.  

Operational Management 

  • Build and sustain a membership base across Greater Manchester. 
  • Lead sector events, capacity-building programmes, and network activities. 
  • Commission and oversee an annual sector survey. 
  • Ensure IT systems, office resources, and equipment are safe, up to date, and compliant. 
  • Maintain accurate communications, including website and social media. 

Governance 

  • Maintain effective organisational governance. 
  • Ensure all policies are current and reviewed regularly. 
  • Maintain and review an active risk register. 

Leadership and Culture 

  • Lead an inclusive, diverse and equitable organisation that lives by its values in the way it operates. 
  • Lead goal-setting and performance review for the organisation. 
  • Foster a positive organisational culture prioritising wellbeing. 
  • Build a culture of learning, support, and teamwork. 


Person Specification 

We are looking for a candidate with: 

  • Understanding of the Global Majority sector and social justice issues. 
  • Proven leadership experience in the voluntary or community sector. 
  • Experience in fundraising, grant management, and developing sustainable funding streams. 
  • Ability to lead a team, manage volunteers, and foster a positive organisational culture. 
  • Strong strategic, operational, and financial management skills. 
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership-building experience. 
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills.
